Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a return to medical care at its roots. If you look to the West Coast, you can see a shift in the healthcare arena to DPC as more and more providers and people are becoming frustrated with the traditional healthcare system. Unlike our current, traditional healthcare system where providers are inundated with administrative tasks, DPC allows our providers to prioritize what truly matters—your health. In the DPC model, providers can dedicate their time to taking care of you instead of having to spend it navigating insurance paperwork and administrative duties. This means they can devote their undivided attention to helping you achieve your health goals, offering personalized care tailored to your unique needs.

One of the key benefits of DPC is the significantly smaller patient panel sizes. While providers in large hospital-based systems or practices reliant on insurance payments for a visit can be responsible for thousands of patients (sometimes 2,000 or more!), DPC providers focus on dedicating ample time and attention to each individual under their care. Rather than rushing through appointments, DPC providers have the ability to engage with you on a deeper level, fostering strong patient-provider relationships built on trust and understanding.

In the current traditional model of medicine, patients often find themselves with only fleeting 5-10 minutes of face-to-face time with their provider which is often following lengthy waits in overcrowded waiting rooms. With DPC, you can bid farewell to the frustration of rushed appointments and a long wait time or crowded waiting room. You can even forego the waiting room altogether and opt for a home visit to have the provider come to you and your family! Additionally, as a member, you will receive direct access to the provider (phone, text, even e-mail)!

DPC is perfect for families and individuals who have high-deductible health plans! In these tough economic times, we know how hard it can be to reach those high deductibles and then have to pay for those unexpected medical bills that always seem to trickle in after you see a medical provider. At Harford Direct Care, we believe in transparent pricing. For less than the price of a cell phone bill, you can have direct access to your primary care provider!  

We do not bill your health insurance for any visit or service rendered by the provider. At your request, we can provide you with an itemized bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Some HSA and FSA plans may reimburse your membership fee! Check with your HR department about this!  

With your membership, you can still have your labs done through Quest or Labcorp and your imaging done through any radiology provider of your choosing (such as Advanced Radiology). However, should you elect to use your insurance when completing these ordered services with these other agencies, we cannot guarantee coverage or payment on behalf of your insurer for the ordered services. Our provider is happy to send your medications to your local pharmacy or mail-order pharmacies.

Harford Direct Care has negotiated reduced rates for lab services if you opt not to use your insurance for labs. We are currently in the process of negotiating reduced rates for medications and imaging studies for our members who would prefer not to use insurance. More to come on this!
